What is the full form of AYUSH – AYUSH Meaning

AYUSH – Ayurvedic, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddh, and Homeopathy

The abbreviation  AYUSH stands for Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy.

Basically,  AYUSH, is a governmental body in India purposed with developing, education and research in Ayurveda (Indian traditional medicine), naturopathy, yoga, homeopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa (Traditional Tibetan medicine) and other Indigenous medicine systems.

AYUSH it was earlier known as the Department of Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy (ISM&H). And,  it was created in March 1995.

It was renamed to AYUSH in the November 2003 in order to emphasize more in developing the Education and Research in Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy

In 2003, it was operated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

In the present time, AYUSH is operated by the Ministry of AYUSH which itself was created on 9 November 2014.

Currently, AYUSH is headquartered in New Delhi and Sh. Shripad Yesso Naik was the Minister of State of AYUSH as of July 2017.

What are the Main Objectives of AYUSH?

The followings are some main objectives of  AYUSH.

  • AYUSH mainly works to improve and upgrade the educational standard in the System of Medicine and Homoeopathy colleges throughout the INDIA.
  • AYUSH also works to support and strengthen diseases research institutions, which have an effective treatment.
  • It also works in the development of pharmacopoeial standards for Indian Systems of the Medicine and Homeopathy drugs.
  • AYUSH also launches schemes in order to promote and increase the cultivation of medicinal plants,  which are an essential source of Ayurveda.
